As of 2019, there were about 22.9 million people of Asian or Pacific Islander descent in the United States (185,221 in Oregon)

There are about 22,000 Asians and Pacific Islanders in the ELCA, representing heritages that are highly diverse. The ELCA has more than 100 Asian congregations and ministries, and a number of Asians and Pacific Islanders are members of multicultural congregations throughout the ELCA. These congregations and ministries are ministering in many languages and embrace a variety of cultures and heritages, including Cambodian, Cantonese, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Lahu, Laotian, Mandarin, Myanmar, Sinhalese, Taiwanese, Tamil, Thai, Urdu, and Vietnamese. The Association of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the ELCA is for and led by Asians in the ELCA.
