Thanksgiving

So much to be thankful for!

There are lots of things I don’t like in life. Lots of things that bother or bug me. But really, I am so fortunate. Perhaps you are, too.

I have a beautiful home. Many people don’t. I am amazingly healthy, and at 63 I need not to take that for granted. My wife Gretchen is an amazing life partner. My kids are all great, and now we have three grandchildren. I get to feast this Thanksgiving with one of them.

My home church is joyful and engaging. My job is a joy. I live in such a beautiful part of the world. Polly, out dog, couldn’t be happier to see me every time I walk through the door. Today the sun was shining and Gretchen and I were able to get out for a walk.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
So the Apostle Paul writes in Philippians chapter 4. There are things in my life I am anxious about. I am not happy about the direction of our country in many ways. Yet, I can and will bring these things to God in prayer. And, I can and will act for justice, peace and equality as best as I am able.  For this thanksgiving weekend, though, I will rest, relax and enjoy the wonderful life I have. You do the same!
