Global Mission

Companion Synod Program of
the Oregon Synod

Our Companion Synod Program links the Oregon Synod with the Evangelical-
Augsburg Church in Poland. This relationship began in September 1995 when Bishop Paul Swanson, Darrel Lundby, Assistant to the Bishop, and
twelve others from the Oregon Synod visited Poland and met with Bishop Szarek leader of then Polish Lutheran Church.

The Synod Global Mission Committee then established as our mission….
1. Creating a spiritual bond and special friendship between the Lutherans of Poland and the Lutherans of Oregon.

2. Providing mutual support for each other through prayer as well as other assistance which will promote the Kingdom of God.

3. Offering opportunities to obtain greater knowledge and appreciation for the traditions and mission of each church body.

To that end we will work to forge bonds on three levels
1. Synod to Synod (Companion Synod program)
2. Congregation to Congregation (Partner-church relationship)
3. Person to Person (Friendships)
